What is Splitcard?
Splitcard is a virtual card that allows groups to pool money onto a shared debit card to easily split group costs. It can be used anywhere, anytime, that accepts a credit card number without credit card swipe requirement. Making it perfect for shared expenses such as events, travel, or group activities. How does Splitcard work?
- Create a group.
- Pay your share and invite others.
- Watch as your group pitches in on the group dashboard.
- Make your group purchase(s).
What if my group card is declined?
If your transaction is declined, don’t worry, we’re here to help! If the purchase falls under a blocked category, we won’t be able to process it. However, if it’s within an approved category and still declined, we can work with you to resolve the issue. Most likely you need to add more funds on your group card. You can do this on your group dashboard. You are never charged for a declined purchase and your funds are still available. Just give us a call or text 888-625-4349, and we’ll be happy to assist you in getting things sorted out quickly!
Can I use Splitcard for any type of purchase?
Splitcard is a virtual card. We do not issue a physical card through the mail. Your virtual card can only be used at places that accepts a credit card number without credit card swipe requirment. It works like any other credit card or debit card.
Splitcard cannot be used at or to purchase gambling funds, illegal substances, weapons, adult sites, gas pumps, or banking apps. These types of purchases are against our terms and conditions.
Is there a maximum or minimum contribution amount?
There is a max contribution limit of $2,000 per person per Splitcard created.
How do participants contribute?
Participants are sent a secure link from the organizer to contribute their share using their preferred payment method, such as a debit card or credit card.
What happens if the full contribution isn’t used?
Participants are only charged for what is actually spent. Any unused funds will be automatically refunded after you finalize the group card.
How much does Splitcard cost?
There is no cost to form a group and invite others to join You are only charged a 4% fee when your transaction is successful. Meaning, each group member is charged a 4% fee on their individual contribution when the transaction is completed.
How is the final cost split?
The final charge is allocated to each participant based on their portion of the group goal amount. Everyone receives a detailed notification of their share after the purchase is complete. Each participant can set their own max amount and if needed, the organizer can fine tune splits across transactions.
Can a group be canceled or finalized early?
Yes! The card organizer can finalize the card or cancel the Splitcard at any before a transaction has occurred. Notifications will be sent to all participants. Any unused funds will be refunded after group card is finalized.
Is Splitcard secure?
Absolutely! Splitcard starts phone number verification and uses industry-standard encryption to ensure all transactions and personal information are safe and secure.
Can I track the card’s status and transactions?
Yes, you can track the card’s status and transaction history directly from your dashboard through our web-app. You’ll also receive notifications about all transactions and your final charge.
Do I need an app to use Splitcard?
Group members don’t need an app to contribute. Splitcard is completely web-based, and all contributions are done within a secured link sent by the organizer.
Who is responsible for managing the Splitcard?
The group organizer manages the money. However, everyone in the group has visibility to the pooling of funds and transaction activity.
Can you book a hotel or rent a car with Splitcard?
Splitcard works anywhere a credit cards are accepted that don’t require a physical swipe! However, some hotels and car rental companies require a physical credit card in the primary renter’s name for deposits or incidentals.
Hotels: You can use Splitcard for the booking itself, but the hotel may ask for a personal card at check-in for incidental charges.
Car Rentals: Most rental companies require a physical credit card for security deposits, so while you may be able to use Splitcard for the reservation, you’ll likely need another card at pickup.
Always check the specific hotel’s or rental company’s payment policies before booking!
